Xiwang Transit Center Reconstruction project of Shijizhuang Municipal Traffic Project (simplified edition)

December 20, 2007

The Shijiazhuang Urban Transport Project aims to improve the urban traffic. This environmental assessment (EA) identifies the negative environmental impacts and presents relevant preventive measures. To reduce air pollution, construction sites will be separated from the surrounding environment. The sites will also be watered regularly. Motor vehicle emission control measures will be enforced to improve air quality. In terms of noise produced by the construction machinery, noise barriers will be installed on overpasses and elevated viaducts near sensitive receptors and residential buildings. The use of low-noise construction machinery will be included in the tendering document for selecting contractors. To reduce vibration levels, the Traffic Policemen Department is responsible for restraining heavy-load motor vehicles in passing through the sensitive receptors at night and prohibiting high speed driving. The Heping Overpass will have a serious sunshine obstruction impact on the residential buildings nearby. To mitigate this, the distance between the buildings neighboring the road and redline will be over 5 meters. Greenbelts will be restored after construction to minimize the impact on roadside vegetation. The silt and powder dust will be removed out of the construction site to prevent the debris from contaminating the drainage. Surface runoff from the construction sites will be collected by storm sewer, not discharged to the canal directly.
